Burgess-Manning Vent and Blowdown Silencers are used throughout the world to control the noise associated with venting pressurized gases to atmosphere. We offer a wide range of standard and custom designs that are used in vent and blowdown applications for natural gas, steam, air or virtually any other pressurized gas. Our silencers can provide noise reduction that can exceed 60 dB for some applications.
Design features of Burgess-Manning vent and blowdown silencers may include single or multiple inlets, multi-stage diffusers, and acoustically lined shells or absorptive panels packed with mineral wool or fiberglass packing. Our latest designs feature "Advanced Micro-Diffusion" which can drastically reduce the silencer size and weight. Silencers may also be equipped with Burgess-Manning's patented "SSF Technology", which effectively eliminates the packing fragmentation and evacuation that can occur in severe service. Typical materials of construction are carbon and stainless steel but materials of higher alloy makeup can be used to provide longer service for applications with high temperature or corrosive environments.
Most vent silencers are designed to operate entirely at atmospheric pressure but can be equipped with components designed to maintain back pressure on the incoming flow using accepted ASME design practices. In addition, Burgess-Manning offers a variety of standard and custom accessories including supports, weatherhoods, birdscreens and directional outlets.
